Bad Situation or Good Outcome?

February 4, 2010

My green monster, my heart and my bliss was taken from me when I made a silly move to leave it unlocked and in the full trust of the universe that it would be safe on my porch. Or maybe it is a sign that I need to get a new bike. I was running on 5 years with it and with each broken seat and pedal, I would adjust the way I rode it. It’s funny because I tend to go through everything else so rapidly when I get sick of it or if I’ve had it in my possession for more than 3 months- my cell phones, jackets and tupperware.
This bike though was an extension of me and I probably felt more connected to it than my left hand. Moving on though, I’m excited to break in a new bike and after seeing Avatar recently, I’m hoping the ends of my hair will have the same affect as the Na’Vi do on their horses.

Ahaha I love that movie! I know how you feel about your bike though, I have my own little green monster and I don't know what I would do if it was taken away. The other day I was at the gym and decided to work out on one of the spinning bikes and spent about 10 minutes trying to adjust it so it felt like my own bike. When I left and got back on my Kilo, it felt like I'd cheated on him with his cousin: same bloodline, totally different experience. You've gotta be careful about bikes on porches though for sure, especially in town. My best friend had hers locked up with a cable lock on her porch and got it stolen within a week. One of my old roommates also got her bike stolen off our porch when she accidentally left it out for a couple of hours one night. You gotta keep those babies inside!

Ah man I'm so sad! I felt really attached to my first good ish bike, a grey little univega. I now have a surly and like it, can tell it's a better bike, but haven't attached to it like I did with uni. Such a bummer that your bike was stolen though. It mostly just makes me sad toward society.
